Dear False Positive Readers,
This is Ashley Walton, Mike’s sister and editor of False Positive. I have really terrible, awful news and a tiny bit of good news.
You might have noticed it’s been a couple years since we’ve posted anything on this website. Well, brace yourself for the saddest update I’ll ever share.
Oh, man. You blew it. You have to set a salmon ball first.
I warned you all he would say something totally racist with them marbles. They are sure all humans are total scumbags now.
You fail!
Honestly, I’m wondering whether the white bubbles on the aliens signify the same as our human ????? would be. And whether our space astronaut just got to the next level *g*
I like how the aliens seem to be expressing the same thought/words/feelings. Uptil now they were each using a different combination of colours to express themselves. The lack of colour could point to disbelief/shock imo.
Little did Tom realize he had just used the ramen-aliens’ Speak-N-Spell to call all their mothers “mother fuckers.” Tom was going to have a very bad day.
Ramaliens. Teeheeheeheehee.
…can’t quite figure why he asked for it, but he just clearly indicated that he wanted to be eaten by the Bugblatter Beast of Traal…
…well, he is the first representative of his species so we should at least give him a suitable substitute…
…don’t want to appear rude on first impressions and all that…
Eh, nothing much to see here. Labrat has to gather some negative feedback before he can learn his first trick. No bacon til he happens to do it right for the first time.
the sphere are all white now. which made me think a little more about how it looks when they communicate, 2 globes, ever shifting in colors. Disco aliens!
(OR! Or they are supreme spagetti monsters! And the spheres are the meatballs!)
No, NO! The WHITE pieces always move first!!!
For some reason that “I don’t know what I’m doing” is hilarious to me.
I’m not sure what’s going to happen, but I’m willing to bet large that this man is not going to like it.
Now he’s gonna have to heh, hehe, REDEEM himself, am I right?
Sorry.
Sorry, you lose, but we won’t send you home empty handed. We have prepared a nice consolation prize for you: immortality! We hope you enjoy the rest of eternity in your cold, dark basement apartment. Now let’s meet our next contestant . . .
I think that MrSing’s comment on the last page is correct (even if made perhaps facetiously), and the guy is indeed colorblind. Further, I believe that this is a form of intelligence test; sorting the items by wavelength, at a guess. He’s done what he can in terms of sorting them by nearness of hues, but given that he’s some degree of colorblind….
I’m not colour blind and I have difficulty “correctly” sequencing dark-red, red, dark-pink, pink, light-pink, orange-pink, etc. in a line, much less organized in the slots provided above.
The farthest ball to the right in the first panel looks like it might be more than one hue.
If someone asks you… If you are sentient… You construct a pentacle from the greater key of Solomon!
Ooh, apologies, let me clarify; I believe the spheres are, in actuality, running through the colors of the rainbow. Roy G. Biv, possibly with some shades in infrared and ultraviolet (or perhaps not, given those would likely show up just as black). The problem is, we’re seeing them as he is seeing them; as varying shades of red.
I also didn’t notice the multi-hued one; looking at it again, I believe you’re right. Fitting that in with my hypothesis, that could possibly be a gradient between, say, yellow and green. Or between any of the colors, perhaps, although it appears to be one of the lighter colors.
Well, we do see the alien’s orbs change to all colors of the rainbow in previous updates. It would be too confusing if the reader could see the alien’s colors, but also see the colorblind perspective of the astronaut.
So I think my joke, much like our astronaut, has no ground to stand on.
On top of the observation with regards to the first panel (good catch by the way), I believe there is another multi-hued sphere in the third panel; the top-most of the two that are connected. I don’t see any others that are of different hues, however.
Is it strange that I enjoy the in-depth conversations in the comments area almost as much as I enjoy the comics themselves?
@MrSing: That’s–hm. That’s a valid point. And yet… hm. Hmm. I went back and checked, and it definitely shows the spheres to be those colors while not from a POV perspective, so that’s a very good point. Nyeh, and I liked that hypothesis, too…. Oh well.
Also, for my newb/stupid moment, why aren’t these comments properly nesting, anyway? It’s saying I’m replying to a member, and then it’ll show up at the bottom as if I were just posting a regular message rather than a proper reply. Which, knowing that it’s going to do that….
@brokenmusiquebox: Not in the least!
I can’t see any problem with the commenting/ comments on this end.
Dear me! Hello! Love the comic!
Okay, so it’s definitely on my end then; might have something to do with noscript, perhaps; forgot about it actually, now have it set to allow the site. If it works, then this should nest properly! If not, might I ask which script governs the comments? I also allowed wordpress, which changed the appearance of the reply box; which makes me a bit optimistic.
Good effort.
Hrm, but no success…. Hm. Well, tried enabling all scripts but facebook, amazon, and google. Not sure what would be causing it otherwise, if that doesn’t work.
Also, since I have your attention, I feel I should mention how impressive I find it that you can make these comics, with this level of quality, in the short time-frame you do them! It’s frankly rather amazing!
Success!
Thank you. It’s a labor of love. I wish I had more time to dedicate toward it.
Also, thanks for reading and commenting. Half the fun is sharing FP with everybody who might have similar interests to my own.
Woo!
Done while also time-limited? Wow. Well, all I can say is that it definitely works!
I’d say you’ve definitely found a receptive audience!
I figured it out! A year and a half later, but still! And considering some of the other symbols is subsequent pages…
There seem to be some pieces missing, but more or less:
