   The tentacular planarians had better be sending the other dragons around behind their enemy … unless they’re following their plan of sending small, ultimately non-decisive units one by one into the wood-chipper, like the Japanese at Guadalcanal or Nonmonhan.

   I find it interesting that the squidish creatures refer to the father as “magician”. As for as his origin goes, he’s innate superhuman qualities are all science based (eating an alien).

   Still, as evidenced by his occult knowledge in “Found in His Hand” the father has used his many years to become a practitioner of the dark arts.

   Never let anyone let you it’s too late to start a new career!

     I am not sure that the father’s powers are all from just eating the alien. I think it might have been exposure to the device they brought into their home as well.
