Dear False Positive Readers,
This is Ashley Walton, Mike’s sister and editor of False Positive. I have really terrible, awful news and a tiny bit of good news.
You might have noticed it’s been a couple years since we’ve posted anything on this website. Well, brace yourself for the saddest update I’ll ever share.
Ah fascinating. The moment when a person with powers that set them apart from the rest of humanity and until then had employed them for survival and self gain, in the face of a greater power that threatens to end all, finally come to understand the social responsibility that comes with power.
And aircon.
Or at least Epicurean, Hobbesian utilitarian self-interest: I can’t let the world burn; where will I get my chocolate?
Didn’t Spike say that in Angel when he thwarted Angelus? And didn’t he add something about Picadilly Circus? It’s what started him on the path to approximating a soul … appreciating the joys and glory of creation.
She’s got a point about AC. It’s pretty amazing.
That’s one of the unwritten rules when it comes to saving the world from certain doom; You might as well fight to save it or there will be no “home” for you to return to.
…or, you know, how much they like air conditioning.
“Social responsibility” = “Save the Air conditioning”.
Use your powers for the good of Mankind…
Sounds suspiciously like Spider-man.
That probably was their battlecry, too: ” ONWARD, FOR AC!!!!!” Long Live Air Conditioning!!!”
For pony!
Ooops! Wrong story.
How long ago was this scripted? I’m finding amazing parallels with the news these days…
?
The building on TV looks a little bit like Westminster, but not quite.
I love the old one tentical background in between and around the panels. Adds to the sense that /it/ is all around them.
That’s no tenticle background …….it’s WAYFARER!!!!
Bit of a change of tack though destroying the world…..must have run out of stranded Astronauts, scientists with dying sprogs and lone women on isolated roads to pester. So it started blowing up cities ?????
“It’s not enough just to Survive… One has to be Worthy to Survive!”
These two are not quite there yet, not quite heroes… but and understanding that the most important thing in existance is not JUST your own personal existance. Evil people are different from good people… the lives of others other than their own self-intrest are not important to evil people… these two are still in that sort of mindset… but THIS is a good first step along the way to becoming better beings.
I have to argue that actions define a hero (any human being), not motivations.
INDEED! I agree, which is why I’m hopeful for these two unlikely immortal potential heroes! And I would posit that, “What a person does is At Least as important as Why they are doing it!” And as a person… clearly distressed with the current American regime… I’m Certain you can understand such a point of view.
In fiction, motivations entertain and allow the audience to know the characters in a manner impossible to achieve in reality. Fiction allows us to read minds and judge thoughts. A fictitious hero can be held to higher standards than flesh and blood peeps. But, if a hero saves the day, they are still a hero to all being saved regardless of the intentions of said hero.
And in reality, it’s impossible to know true motivations.
So, I would counter posit that motivation, or the “why” behind the action, while entertaining, is monumentally less important than what a person does whether in fiction or our 2D hologram reality.
…well I’m afraid we will have to simply agree to disagree on this point! 🙂
I believe that Motivation is the Heart of Moral Choice that inspires action! We are all only mortal.. and we cannot foresee ALL the results of unintended consequences.
Avarice men may do EVIL things that have GOOD results.. just as men motivated by righteousness may have unintentional EVIL consequences for their actions.. and yes.. everyone is only responsible for their personal deeds.. this is not a judgement on the Wisdom of the means that people use to accomplish their goals~ right or wrong.
BUT I STRONGLY feel that the ONLY thing free-willed beings TRULY OWN is the Motivations for their actions!
Motivations Matter!
if you condemn the intentional or unintentional heroics of the iniquitous, those you deem “evil,” by that logic, do you forgive atrocities committed by any who claim to have good intentions, those you find to be “righteous?”
The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
“I will introduce you to great and terrible marvels” and then he blows up a few cities, very disappointing Wayfarer. We can do that ourselves without you.
Maybe he is just mad because his A/C went down?
Well said, Old Bill, and in the last decade, we’ve been doing so with a rapidly increasing frequency.
Her minor concession to enlightened self-interest here is a good foreshadowing of how they end up as space-cannibals in Sentinel. It seems that even if they save the world, they’ll never stop being purely self-centered.
It’s not them in Sentinel. The father looks older, and his leg and head is cut off without any problems. The daughter is smaller and also doesn’t have anything like the reaction to her father getting killed that we would expect. It’s different characters
I’d be surprised if they weren’t the same, because they look exactly the same. I don’t think Mike would be that careless with his character design. Also, in “Found in his Hand” we clearly see Father get hurt by the witch, which says he’s not impervious to all harm. I’m going with that theory until proven otherwise.
They look similar. The daughter looks the same, but the dude doesn’t. Can indestructible people cut their hair without heatvision?
Mike could be gently trolling us. The daughter didn’t show up until after comments said the dude looked the same.
Actually, Mike has shown several times, that he reuses images. Probably to save time/money. In Exiled the father is shot point blank in the face with only a small scratch. But in Sentinel he supposedly cuts his own leg of to feed his children? – That has got to be some hard meat to chew… And why would he suddenly foster new children? Would it even be possible? If they can’t grow older then they wouldn’t even be able to be born. You have to agree that it’s all very strange
We shall see, patrcikmcevoy … we shall see … or we won’t. But we’ll definiteely see about that last one.
I really want to see a higher-resolution image of what’s on that TV screen….! ^^;
Thank you so much for the high resolution image. I’ve been skeptical of those comments that this seems familiar from news recently, but I was wrong – we’ve sen so many historic cities leveled in the last few years … even some small ones in Europe.
Here’s hoping the order of magnitude increase in deaths from terrorism and half that in open, traditional war, not to mention the statistically significant drop in life expectancy for (generally war-free) Americans in 2015 (in people who had health insurance for a long time) which happened before The Ferguson Effect took hold is really providing a creepy backdrop for it all … but seriously, it’ be chilling regardless.
“But Da-aaaad..!”
2 days? Seems a short time to gather the immortals, raise the witch, then duke it out with the monster…
It’s for AC, man. I’d be willing to do all of that and more for AC on a hot summer day.
