False Positive Tips: Awesome Horror Comedy Movies –

Sequential Narrative is the art of telling a story through a series of images or frames. The term applies to both comic books and filmmaking. That’s why both genres so heavily influence one another.

I love movies and they’re a huge inspiration in my work. Let’s look at some of my favorites this month.

Today, in no particular order, here are some of my favorite horror movies with a comedic slant.

31 Days of Halloween Day 1: Horror Comics You’ll Love

on 2021/10/01

False Positive Tips: Horror Comics

It’s that time of the year. When the leaves turn. And, pumpkin spice improves or contaminates everything. But, most importantly, ’tis the season for celebrating everything spooky and creepy. Time to wake up! It’s Halloween-o’clock.

If you’re anything like me and mine, you find yourself desperately looking for some new quality horror content to celebrate the season. The struggle is real.

That’s why I’m commemorating the holiday season by sharing some lists of my favorite stuff—inspiration for making False Positive.

I want to celebrate and recommend the works of cherished creators of comics, books, TV shows, Video Games, and movies… lots of movies… movies, mostly.

Let’s kick things off with a few of my favorite horror comics.

In no particular order, here are SIX horror comics that I love and you might too. ❤

6 Horror Comics You’ll Love

…

Preacher, by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon and Glenn Fabry, is one of the most extensive titles on this list with 75 total issues.

The publisher’s blurb:

“One of the most celebrated and challenged comics titles of the late 1990s, PREACHER is a modern American epic of life, death, love and redemption also packed with sex, booze, blood and bullets – not to mention angels, demons, God, vampires and deviants of all stripes.”

…

Locke & Key, by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez, gives us a contemporary dark fantasy with slick plotting and beautifully fun art.

The publisher’s blurb:

“Locke & Key tells of Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion, with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them.”

…

The manga, Uzumaki, by Junji Ito, hypnotizes with hyper-detailed madness.

The publisher’s blurb:

“Kurouzu-cho, a small fogbound town on the coast of Japan, is cursed. According to Shuichi Saito, the withdrawn boyfriend of teenager Kirie Goshima, their town is haunted not by a person or being but by a pattern: uzumaki, the spiral — the hypnotic secret shape of the world.”

…

Through the Woods, by Emily Carroll, delivers a precious dark fantasy treasury.

The publisher’s blurb:

“Five mysterious, spine-tingling stories follow journeys into (and out of?) the eerie abyss.”

…

Nameless, by Grant Morrison and Chriss Burnham, delivers cosmic horror with clever comic storytelling.

The publisher’s blurb:

“Nameless tells the story of a down-at-heel occult hustler known only as “Nameless” who is recruited by a consortium of billionaire futurists as part of a desperate mission to save the world. A massive asteroid named Xibalba — the “Place of Fear” in Mayan mythology — is on collision course with the planet Earth.”

…

One of my favorite comics of all, Black Hole, by Charles Burns, deserves your attention.

The publisher’s blurb:

“Suburban Seattle, the mid-1970s. We learn from the outset that a strange plague has descended upon the area’s teenagers, transmitted by sexual contact. The disease is manifested in any number of ways — from the hideously grotesque to the subtle (and concealable) — but once you’ve got it, that’s it. There’s no turning back.”

…

I also recommend checking out some Hellboy for beautiful art and fun fables.

Concoction Commentary

on 2020/05/31

I posted this video about Concoction back in January of 2015 on my seemingly dead YouTube account.

At the time, unhappy with the quality of the final product, I decided not to share it far and wide.

And now, I’m sharing it in hopes it might offer a few minutes of distraction for those who have interest in learning a little about False Positive and can brave the poor audio.

Take care of one another. Stay healthy.
